The "Kankakee Ham Radio Club" began its long history of meetings in 1925,

pausing only for the duration of the war years. In 1961, the club was

officially incorporated as the Kankakee Area Radio Society Inc., a non-profit

organization dedicated to advancing the amateur radio hobby.

Over its nearly century long existence the society has been a staple

in the Kankakee community, assisting with civil defense, participating in

fundraisers, and providing valuable communication support.

With over 100 years of operation, the club has witnessed and embraced

significant technological evolution from early era spark gap technology

to modern radio advancements. Though many members have passed on and

become "silent keys," the legacy and continued presence of the

club remain a vital part of the local community, and strive to advance

their own training and education.
